Eww

Pollution is disgusting.

I'm doing my research project on renewable energy/fuels. It seems everywhere you turn, there is someone new advocating going green. But sometimes it feels like it's all just hype, and some are not really into going green. They just want to charge you more by saying they're eco-friendly. Am I being too cynical? Don't get me wrong. I'm the first to tell you that the world's resources are depleting, that we need more viable and clean sources of energy, and that we need to stop waste. It's going to take a lot though, and it's going to be a big job. That's why I think I may go into environmental engineering. I want to save the world.

Here are some tidbits from my project (quoted directly from sources):

  • By conservative oil industry estimates there were almost 7,000 oil spills between 1970 and 2000, more than one each day (the real figure might be twice or three times that number). Gas flaring (burning off natural gas released by oil drilling) in the delta produces 70 million metric tons of carbon emissions a year -- "a substantial proportion of worldwide greenhouse gas," according to the World Bank.
  • America's oil consumption has increased 25% since 1980—we're now chug-a-lugging 20 million barrels of oil every single day (up from 16 million in 1980).
The truth is that we're not ready yet to switch over completely:
  • Coal, for example, packs a great deal of stored energy in a relatively small volume. As a result, a coal-fired plant requires only a few hundred acres of space, yet can supply electricity for 200,000 homes. By contrast, to generate equal power from wind, which is far less power-dense, you'd need a wind farm of more than 200 square miles in size.
  • The entire output of every solar photovoltaic (PV) cell currently installed worldwide—about 2,000 megawatts total—is less than the output of just two conventional, coal-fired power plants.
But we're going to have to make the change one day, and I want to be a part of it.

A gift to start out your week. Have a good one

and so, i've come to a decision.
i've decided that i will finally finish my 'novel'.
i started writing it many years ago but i never did give it an ending.
i came across my old drafts the other day and i realized that now would be a good time to do so.

reading my older pieces of writing has made me realize that at my very core, i haven't changed very much.
my writing was as cynical and sarcastic as it is now, wittier perhaps, but the same nonetheless.
although there was one glaring change.
i think i was happier.

YouTube will become compost

If you guys didn't know already, all that we knew about YouTube changed last Thursday. Okay, it's not really that bad. YouTube just needs to make a little more money and advertise a bit. John Green and Hank explain it all. I just hope this is not a step toward a less user-centered community. How can we get rid of Wong Fu, vlogbrothers, NigaHiga, KevJumba, CommunityChannel, HappySlip, OK Go???? The world would be in total fits if that were to happen. The world would probably implode or something...

I noticed something really random about how I take notes. One of my OCD things is that I have to put an arrow on the bottom right of my paper. I used to do it so that I knew my notes continued on, but I realized that's pretty much self-explanatory. Now it's just another one of my weird habits.

8 weeks and we're seniors. That's crazy.

Balloons, Anyone?

Throwing water balloons at teachers for money:priceless.
Cleaning up two hundred balloon fragments:time-consuming.

Is it just me or is the world really into balloons right now? It's all over the place. Lily Allen(watch the end. It's epic balloon time), Tim Walker(an amazing Vogue photographer), Matchbox 20, old French films, everywhere. Ok, the last one was around for awhile. But even look at Oh Joy!. She knows it too. Balloons are popular right now. 99 Red Balloons? Yeah, I know. I just had to throw that one in too.

Wow. Ok, I've just noticed that all these things aren't really new. Oh well. You get my drift.

I JUST discovered KevJumba. Yes, yes, I know. I'm really behind on these things. If you're even slower than I am, which I'm sure you're not, this is KevJumba.

Video game music ftw.

Have a wonderful weekend.

A Superexciting Post!

Ok, not so superexciting. We're on Spring Break though! Which would make you think we'd have a ton more posts to do since we're probably doing some exciting stuff over break. But for now, I have this Western tent caterpillar from Red Rock to show you. They're the twitchiest bugs I have ever seen. It was really quite disgusting to watch. So apparently, they make "tents", which look like spider webs. Can't explain. Total writer's block. Maybe it's better if you just look...

SAT scores tomorrow. eeeeeexciteddd. 7 AM and a couple of friends and I are going to check simultaneously over a three way. Yes, I'm THAT much of a nerd.

I'm trying to make the scrapbook for NHS, which I hope I'll be able to master by the end of the month. I had a few prints of pictures today. Costco's 13 cents/4x6 ftw! Scrapbooking tips, anyone?

Meet Meline, a cute indie shortfilm (found on Abduzeebo):

"Meet Meline" tells the story of little girl, named Meline, that will be faced with an extraordinary event. A strange little creature will appear on her life. The story follow this unusual encounter from the little girl's point of view.

Pleased

Today's been pretty good. =D

I'll be happy for Zamaika if she's not so overtly excited as I.

Happy April Fool's! Nothing particular trickery has happened to me today. At least I don't think so.

Also, HUGE congratulations to the aforementioned amazing duo, who won first place in nationals this weekend, the very first to do so from Nevada. I'm so proud of them.

Have an excellent/prolific/epic rest of your week.

I was told some good advice a couple days ago.

Every person in your life is a blessing, no matter how good or bad. If bad, you just learn that's how you don't want to be.
